Coupon/Deal Aggregators: Moving ‘Deal a Day’ Up the Value Chain?

Summary: How are Groupon and the emerging “deal a day” industry going to evolve? Is it the cornerstone for a new local information hub? We have thought a lot about it, and so have the entrepreneurs trying to differentiate themselves from the 150 or so players that have jumped in so far. One solution that has been widely studied is to become an aggregator of deal-a-day offers. New companies such as 8coupons, TheDealMap, Dealradar and Yipit have combined deal-a-day offers with coupons, flash sales, mapping features and social media, such as shopper bloggers. In this Advisory, we look at a wide range of strategies embraced by such aggregators.
